Dear Everybody, I Love You

Dear everybody front
Dear everybody back

Dear Everybody, I Love You. It's true, even if you've done me wrong. Even if you've done your neighbor wrong. Or your friend. Or your brothers and sisters, mothers, fathers, country, or the whole wide world.

Dear Everybody, I Love You, because that's what we have to do on this earth if we're gonna make it.

Dear Everybody, I Love You, and I mean all of you, and the dogs and cats and bats and rats and bears and sharks and black widow spiders and birds and bees and flowers and trees and grass and rocks, too. Dear Everybody, I Love You!

"Dear Everybody, I Love You" is the name of my latest collection of songs. I'm lucky that I was able to put these songs together with some fabulous musicians in a cool little studio in Austin, Texas and I'm lucky that I'm getting to share it with you today. We recorded it over three days exactly 2 years ago--January 18-20th, 2016--and it really is pretty much pure coincidence that it's finally being released today because I honestly wanted to get it out by the end of 2016. Life intervened, though, and here we are today.

Dear Everybody, I Love You. The name came to me in a dream. I died in this dream. I was killed by a famous musician. He didn't mean to kill me, though, at least I don't think so. But we died all the same, both of us, and my last thought was a little prayer: dear everybody, I love you. I woke up right as I died in the dream with those words seared into my brain. I thought about it all day. And what do you know, it seemed like a pretty good album title for the collection of songs I was sitting on, which just so happened to be in need of a name since these things are supposed to be named. Up until that moment, I was thinking of calling it "Fun Hurts."

I think I like "Dear Everybody, I Love You" better.

Most of these songs are about the passing of time, in a roundabout way, but it certainly wasn't planned like that. I had a good handful of songs of varying subject matter when we went into the studio to start work and the idea was to go through as many songs as we could with the little time we had. An example: there was one about the Great Fly Invasion of 2009, a horrible tale that needs telling one day. Hopefully there will be time for that. Hopefully there will be time for a great many things. But you never know...

Yes, there were many songs. Many, many songs. A tremendous amount of songs. Russia songs. China songs. Big league songs. Minor league songs. Minor key songs. And major. Believe me. But we didn't have time to record all of those.

We recorded these.

I hope you like them. I do but I'm moving on. Can't rest yet. I hope I get to make another collection of songs someday. I've written some new ones and hope to write even more. And live more. And love more.

Dear Everybody, I Love You.

Thanks for listening,
J
