Johnny Dango & The Stillwater Pioneers

The Pioneers played their first gig in 2006, on New Year's Day at a South Austin rib joint. More shows followed, both at bars and at nontraditional venues such as doggy day cares. Pioneering, indeed. To prove they were a real band, the fellas put out a record called "Let's Go Pioneering!" in 2007. A critical hit and commercial flop, most people who hear it say it's just about the best album for a road trip mankind has ever made. The band hung it up in 2009 and today Dango is the only one left still living in Austin. Which doesn't seem so pioneering sometimes...

Johnny Dango -- vocals, guitar, harmonica

Lew Card -- vocals, mandolin

Kevin Hennessy -- vocals, bass

Scott Carlson -- drums

Lunchbox Andy Hodgson -- pedal steel guitar
