At least as far as the cottonwoods go… the pines, not so much.
Some pretty good fall colors have been making for some spectacular drives crisscrossing Montana. The fishing has been fun. The shows have been good, though they are officially winding down. Gone are the tourist hordes of the summer. Mostly. There are still a bunch of cotton tops running amok in Yellowstone but the pace is a lot slower. Overnight temps are regularly getting down into the 30s. I've been digging out some of the cold weather clothing. Circles and cycles…
Pretty stoked to get out to Oregon in a few weeks to play some shows and hopefully catch some steelhead and salmon. I'll dip down to northern California before starting the trek back down south for the winter. There's much to do.
First, I've got to help my dad and sister put the garden to bed until spring. We're going to try overwintering some tomatoes and peppers. Hopefully there will be one more good final pepper harvest so I can make a batch of hot sauce. Then it's back to Austin to deal with the nightmare I left myself in the form of a horribly overpacked storage unit. A lifetime of accumulating god knows what. Mostly music gear. Much of which will be purged. My buddy Will told me once that as musicians our gear was our only real retirement policy. I believe it. But now I also believe I can't continue storing so much stuff. Sell sell sell! It's all gotta go. Ok, not all. But most.
It'll be good for my guts to play some rock & roll again with The Memphis Strange. And The Stinking Roses. Although no one knows it yet but I'm scrapping that name. We'll be The Endless Shrimp from now on. Marinate on that.
